Ecological Investigations of the Scottish Lichen Flora

Montane Heathlands

Montane heathlands are another habitat where lichens make a particularly big contribution to ecosystem diversity and functioning. This habitat is a particular focus for work on the impacts of climate, pollution and land use change in Workpackage 3.7.

Our expertise in studying these communities has led to the development of the ‘Montane Heath Lichen Guide’, a photo-identification guide and information resource for walkers and naturalists covering the common and not-so-common lichens to be found in montane dwarf-shrub, grass and moss heaths of the UK.
