Protecting and Enhancing Landscapes and Rural Communities

This research theme is taking an holistic approach to sustainable rural development by investigating the ‘actors’, drivers and processes influencing its landscapes and communities. A key feature is enhanced stakeholder participation to consolidate knowledge exchange and align relevant strategies. This theme also integrates work across both the natural and social sciences.

The research is constructed around four interacting modules based upon key challenges for both policy and society, (see Project leaflet - 2MB PDF).

The research theme is being tackled by teams of environmental, social and economic scientists from The Macaulay Institute and the Scottish Agricultural College.
